Making the grade

4/30/2013

We no longer have a big pile of dirt in our backyard! The yard was graded today to slope the ground away from the house. It looks very nice and sloped to allow rain to flow away from the house.

Our dryer was installed on its pedestal and we have enough room to be able to access the doors on the washer and dryer!

If you recall the giant box from before, it held our claw foot tub that we are putting in the master bathroom. In the picture below you can see it assembled before they move it into the actual bathroom.

Low voltage and Internet cables are being wired up tomorrow as we push to be able to move in Saturday!

Painting almost done!

The paint colors are up in the walls and they look great!

We went with Sherwin Williams color Alpaca (SW7022) for our primary color and then went with Proper Gray (SW6003) in the master bath and first floor powder room and Functional Gray (SW7024) in the 2nd floor bath and laundry room.

We also spent time yesterday taping and spraying the cabinets and mantle around the fireplace. It's being sprayed and enameled with white paint which should really pop against the gray walls.

Granite, marble, and quartz countertops should be going in today!

A lot of details being done now

It's been a pretty hectic week with cabinets now installed and final painting of trim and doors happening as I write this!

Door knobs are in the house, waiting for the paint to try on the doors. We also have the appliances I. The house but they aren't installed just yet.

The fireplace mantle and cabinets are in and waiting for white paint. The wainscoting in the master bathroom has been put in and painted. It looks great with the marble floor tile!

The granite has been cut and is being prepared for installation next week. The center island is going to be 43 inches wide by 120 inches, give or take a few. The granite is called ice white.

We should be moving boxes in by this time next week!

Cabinets, cabinets, cabinets!

4/22/2013

Lots of cabinets going in today! Kitchen cabinets are laid out with the uppers already attached and the center island cabinets going in today!

Mantle and fireplace cabinets are laid out but will also be put together shortly.

We went with a very dark brown stain on the kitchen, master bathroom and second floor bathroom. The laundry room and fireplace cabinets are going to be an enameled white.

More tile, more woodwork and exterior paint

4/17/2013

The shower wall tile is going in. We went with some basic 3 X 6 white subway tile ($.22 each at Lowes!) in the upstairs bathroom with a glass accent tile at eye height.

Marble floor tile is now grouted and looks really nice!

There's also some nice wood trim on the top of the stair walls with the same notch trim details.

Last and certainly not least for today is the exterior paint color. This is a tough choice as we want to go with a gray for the primary color with white trim but the accent color for the shakes seems to dark. It's hard to figure out what color you want for the next 5 years!

The tile is getting grout and the front concrete steps have been poured. We are picking out exterior paint next!

Also, a big box showed up today and its very heavy!

More tile and trim

We are starting to see the tile and trim go in now along with the doors so you get a better feel for the way the house will look once everything is painted.

Tile, doors, and trim going in!

The floor tile is getting put in and will be ready for grout soon. We are using the same tile in the 2nd floor bathroom and 2nd floor laundry called Leonia Silver. It's a glazed porcelian12 x 24 inch tile. The mudroom is a 12 x 24 tile from Lowes called Mitte Gray.

The real fun tile is going to be the master bathroom! We are going with a classic hex pattern marble floor and in the shower we are using a 3 x 6 marble subway tile.

The doors are two panel doors with oil rubbed bronze hinges and hardware. The wall trim will be a classic white with accent detail.

Getting ready for tile!

We are getting ready to have the tile laid down in the bathrooms and the mudroom. You can see the mesh with the in-floor heat for the master bath below.

The wood floor has also received another coat of stain so we have the rich brown tone to the floor that will go great with our kitchen cabinets.

And the furnace is in! It's about one fifth the size of the old gravity furnace we replaced and I'm guessing way more energy efficient!
